February is officially here, which means it's Black History Month here in the United States. Since 1926, we have celebrated Black history in schools, in our communities, and in our homes every February. Now it’s 2023, and we are honoring and supporting Black baddies all year round. However, this month, we wanted to take some extra time to introduce you to some fantastic Black baddies who are killing the game in sustainability, eco-activism, mental health, creativity, and more. If you don’t already know these folks, we are here to introduce you to just SOME of the inspiring baddies who are out here doing their thing. This Black History Month, let’s commit to celebrating Black creativity, progress, and leadership, not just for one month, but permanently.
How to Thrift: A Guide to Thrifting For Every Experience Level🛍👗
If we had to describe a sustainable baddie to you, one of the first things we’d say is “they love to go thrifting.” The joy we get from spending a day looking through secondhand clothing is beyond description. Once we spot that diamond in the rough, some unbelievably priced vintage designer, or just the right basic we needed, the angels sing and suddenly we’re all warm inside. We know thrifting can sometimes be an overwhelming experience if you’re not sure what you’re looking for, or if you’re trying it out for the first time. Whether you’re in the spring of your sustainability journey or you’re a seasoned thrifter who has managed to avoid the flesh-eating bacteria in the bins, this guide is for all thrifters alike. No matter where you find yourself on the thrifting spectrum, there are tips in here for you!
Sustainable Baddie’s January Staff Faves 🎶🌹
Happy Aquarius Szn Baddies! Does anyone else feel like January flew by!? We’re not complaining though. Mercury and Mars's retrograde are over, we’re finally picking up speed in achieving our New Year's resolutions, and in NYC, the sun has finally begun to set after 5 PM. We might’ve had a slow, rocky beginning to 2023 (especially for victims of winter viruses) but it has granted us the time to really think about what we hope to accomplish and recharge for the experiences ahead. Here’s what the Sustainable Baddie team has been loving during the first month of 2023! And say hello to our new editor, Carla!

Rian Phin
Phin is a fashion theorist who started on Youtube in 2013 and is now commanding the fashion world of TikTok. In a recent vogue article, she explained that her content “is mostly focused on the digital world, how we talk about fashion online and how we interact with fashion in the real world based on the internet.” Her videos provide in-depth takes on the latest high fashion trends and the way that we see them trickle down into mainstream fashion. In her videos, she takes on a variety of unique, hot, topics in the fashion world like AI Art and Co-Design and Authenticity Policing. We love Phin as a resource for keeping us educated on new fashion topics and inspiring us to challenge our boundaries in fashion to be more explorative with the ways that we understand our own and collective style.
