Welcome to a special fashion week edition of the Sustainable Baddie newsletter! We’re bringing you all kinds of highlights from F/W ‘24, from our founder Jazmine’s NYFW ‘fits to our favorite susty trends fresh off the runway. Enjoy, baddies!!
New York Fashion Week F/W ‘24 has come and gone, leaving in its wake next fall’s style trends. The word “trend” often translates to something ephemeral, and more importantly, disposable. It’s important to recognize that while something may trend, it doesn’t necessarily lack permanence in the world of fashion; the trends we’re highlighting below are largely blasts from the past that are reemerging for another cycle—some with fresh iterations or fused with contemporary aesthetics.
If runway trends excite or inspire you, the good news is that you don’t need to buy new items to liven up your wardrobe. These trends are likely already in your closet, easily DIY-able, or readily available on the secondhand market.
This Is What I Wore to New York Fashion Week F/W '24 As a Sustainable Fashion Influencer 👗
I’m a firm believer that sustainable fashion doesn’t negate the rituals of the fashion industry; in fact, slow fashion is crucial to preserving and improving the industry. I love being in spaces of artistry to celebrate people who are intentional about the craft of fashion, and meeting like-minded peers. And of course, I always love an excuse to dress up. Read on for a look into what I wore to this season’s runway shows.
"Lived In" Looks Seize New York Fashion Week F/W ‘24 🏡
Our standout sustainable moment wasn’t defined by a particular material, designer, or trend, but by the understanding that clothing is meant to be worn, loved, and integrated into everyday life as an art form.
In an era dominated by single-use clothing, some of our favorite sustainable designers emphasized the joy of wearing garments daily, a sentiment echoed on the runways this fashion week and in recent Internet fashion discourse.
The following collections were our favorite tributes to the beauty of lived-in clothing at New York Fashion Week F/W ‘24.
📢 Susty Deal of the Week: Hauteline 📢
Everyone knows that sustainable baddies stan borrowed clothes. Hauteline is an Asian American-owned rental marketplace that prioritizes partnerships with small and sustainable businesses. You can get all kinds of fun statement pieces, like this Black Cookie Top Handle Bag from Puppets and Puppets.
Sustainable fashion is slow and mindful, but it can be out of budget for some of us. Renting is a great way to wear those pieces for a special occasion or just to match your mood.
